A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
Reverend Eugene C. Tillman; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Reverend Eugene C. Tillman has served the citizens of Brunswick and Glynn County
with great care and dedication; and
WHEREAS,
he was the first African American to serve on the Glynn County School Board and,
demonstrating his excellent leadership, went on to become its Chairman;
and
WHEREAS,
he also served on the Glynn County Commission where he continued to earn the
respect and admiration of his colleagues becoming its Chairman as well;
and
WHEREAS,
elected to five terms in the Georgia General Assembly, he was the first African
American since Reconstruction to represent the 173rd District and was a member
of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials; and
WHEREAS,
during his ten distinguished years at the State Capitol, he was highly esteemed
by his colleagues in the General Assembly for his wisdom and wit, his persistent
dedication to Georgia's citizens, and the friendship and distinction which he
brought to legislative deliberations; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Tillman has provided comfort and guidance to his community for more
than four decades as the pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist
Church.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring Reverend Eugene C. Tillman for his outstanding
dedication to improving the quality of life enjoyed by his fellow citizens and
extend to him their sincere best wishes for his continued health and
happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Eugene C. Tillman.
