A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Calvin Andrews for his outstanding public service on the occasion of his
retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Calvin Andrews, the first born child of Hoyt and Martha Andrews, graduated from
the Old Franklin County High School and then attended North Georgia College in
Dahlonega; and
WHEREAS,
he served his country with honor and distinction, first for three years on
active duty in the United States Army and then for 28 years in the Reserves;
and
WHEREAS,
he is devoted to his wife, Frances, and together they have two wonderful
children, Aneah Kay and Cal Jr.; and
WHEREAS,
he is an active member of Lavonia First Baptist Church, where he was elected
Deacon in 1958; and
WHEREAS,
he became a highly successful businessman, founding the greatly respected and
much admired Andrews Jewelers in 1958; and
WHEREAS,
in 1974, he was elected to serve on the Ty Cobb Healthcare System Board of
Directors and served as its chairman from 1985 to 2002, during which time the 71
bed rural hospital and nursing home grew into an integrated health care system;
and
WHEREAS,
his untiring dedication to improving the quality and accessibility of health
care to the citizens of Northeast Georgia and his many contributions to the Ty
Cobb Healthcare System have made a significant difference in the care and
comfort of countless patients and their families and is exemplary of all that is
best in public service; and
WHEREAS,
his many accomplishments testify to his strength of character, capable and
effective leadership, and his commitment to improving the quality of life of his
fellow citizens.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in commending Mr. Calvin Andrews for his many years of exemplary
public service on the Ty Cobb Healthcare System Board of Directors and extend
their sincere best wishes to Mr. Andrews on the occasion of his
retirement.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Calvin
Andrews.
