RESOLUTION
Congratulating
Georgia Perimeter College; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia Perimeter College, formerly DeKalb College, will be celebrating the 40th
anniversary of its founding; and
WHEREAS,
this outstanding organization has grown from its humble beginnings when it
opened its doors with only 763 students into one of the most respected and
innovative institutions of higher learning in the state as evidenced by the
broad base of students from innumerable religious, economic, cultural, racial,
and occupational segments; and
WHEREAS,
the celebration underscores the theme of connecting the past, present, and
future by providing an opportunity to reminisce about how the past has led to
the present and looking to the bright and promising future; and
WHEREAS,
this landmark academic facility continues to meet its goals by fostering a
positive and forward-thinking approach to education and currently is home to
over 22,000 students; and
WHEREAS,
the presence of the school in the metropolitan Atlanta area is directly
responsible for more than $800 million of economic activity and it sustains more
than 7,300 jobs; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
amazing group be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body congratulate Georgia Perimeter College on the occasion of its 40th
anniversary, commend it for its many outstanding contributions on behalf of the
citizens of Georgia, and extend to it their best wishes for continued growth,
development, and success in the future.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Jacquelyn
M. Belcher, president of Georgia Perimeter College.
