House Resolution 98

A RESOLUTION

Commending the late Pete Herndon upon his selection to the Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Pete Herndon has long been recognized for the vital role that he played in providing leadership and in serving the citizens of this state and Hart County; and

WHEREAS, he diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his years of outstanding service in education having taught at Hart County High School from 1930 until his retirement in 1971; and

WHEREAS, during his teaching tenure, he chartered the Hart County chapter of the Future Farmers of America, was instrumental in having his students establish a community garden during World War II to supply the school lunchrooms and feed the 2,500 school age children in the county, built the Hart County High School football stadium with his agriculture classes, and was county teacher of the year in 1958 and was among the nine state finalists for Georgia Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivities earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates as reflected by his selection for membership in the Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished individual be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Pete Herndon for his many years of efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service and extend to his family their most sincere appreciation for his devotion to the citizens of this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Pete Herndon.
