RESOLUTION
Honoring
Mr. Rusty Wallace and welcoming him to the Georgia state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rusty Wallace has an amazing career record of 55 victories and 36 poles,
finishing among the NASCAR Top 10 in championships 16 times; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Wallace clinched the 1991 International Race of Champions (IROC) title and
the 1983 American Speed Association (ASA) series championship and claimed the
title of 1989 NASCAR Cup champion; and
WHEREAS,
he was the 1984 Raybestos Rookie of the Year and ranks eighth on NASCAR's
all-time win list; and
WHEREAS,
race fans have cheered him into victory lane twice at Atlanta Motor Speedway,
first in 1988 and again in 1993; and
WHEREAS,
on March 16, 1980, he finished second to Dale Earnhardt in his first series
race, the Atlanta 500, and in 1989, captured the 1989 Cup championship title at
Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is celebrating Atlanta Motor Speedway Day at the Capitol on
March 16, 2005, and it is only fitting and proper that the remarkable
achievements of this racing champion be appropriately recognized on this grand
occasion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring Mr. Rusty Wallace for his amazing record as a NASCAR
driver, welcome him to the state capitol, and extend their sincere best wishes
for a highly successful and safe racing season.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Rusty
Wallace.
