Senate
Resolution 101
By:
Senators Grant of the 25th, Mullis of the 53rd, Douglas of the 17th, Seabaugh of
the 28th, Harp of the 29th and others
A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Georgia Military College and its student body for supporting the
war in Iraq; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the mood among the student body of Georgia Military College is a mixture of
pride and sadness as students, many of whom are members of the Georgia National
Guard, deploy to Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
each student leaving for the combat zone is presented with a Georgia Military
College flag by Major General Peter Broylan to take to Iraq as a symbol of
support back home; and
WHEREAS,
while the cadets admit to a feeling of excitement at the prospect of combat,
Major General Broylan, a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, knows how deeply
each returning cadet will be changed by the experience, and he knows with a
certainty exclusive to combat veterans the sacrifice these young men are
prepared to make; and
WHEREAS,
the call of duty impacts not only the cadets but also the institution, as the
departing students will create a budget shortfall at the college of
approximately $500,000.00 in 2005 and perhaps $750,000.00 in 2006, a sum Major
General Broylan is sure the General Assembly will bear in mind; and
WHEREAS,
all Georgians can be proud of the cadets and cadre of Georgia Military College
for their individual and institutional sacrifice and support for the
nation´s war in Iraq.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
and commend Georgia Military College and its student body for their support of
the nation´s war efforts in Iraq and for the sacrifices they are
making.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Major General Peter
Broylan on behalf of the cadets of Georgia Military College.
