RESOLUTION
Commending
and congratulating the Valdosta State University Football Team; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the 2004 Valdosta State University Football Team won four consecutive playoff
games and, in front of the crowd in Florence, Alabama, and a national television
audience looking on at home, clinched a 36-31 victory over top-ranked Pittsburg
State to win the NCAA Division II National Championship; and
WHEREAS,
the Blazers finished their regular season with an amazing record of nine wins
and one loss, and secured Valdosta its fourth championship in the last five
years; and
WHEREAS,
for inspiring and leading this team to the national championship, Valdosta
State's head coach, Chris Hatcher, was named Division II national football coach
of the year; and
WHEREAS,
these accomplishments were the culmination of a season of hard work, exemplary
sportsmanship, and exceptional teamwork among a group of highly talented and
dedicated athletes; and
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta community and the State of Georgia take great pride in the
accomplishments of these fine champions, and the team will be honored at the
capitol on February 15, 2005.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending and congratulating the Valdosta State University Football Team, 2004
Gulf South Conference Champions and NCAA II Division National Champions, and
Head Coach Chris Hatcher for their outstanding performance during this exciting
and memorable season.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chris Hatcher, Head Coach
of the Valdosta State University Football Team.
