A RESOLUTION

Commending Matthew James Barker on becoming an Eagle Scout; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Matthew James Barker of Boy Scout Troop 109 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which was awarded to him at an Eagle Court of Honor on September 6, 2005; and

WHEREAS, this exceptional Boy Scout has earned 33 merit badges, including 12 that are mandatory for the Eagle Scout program; and

WHEREAS, only one scout out of 97 ever reaches this lofty level of achievement, and Matthew James Barker has ably demonstrated his aptitude and competency in mastering the many special skills taught through the Boy Scout program; and

WHEREAS, Matthew James Barker has truly exhibited a commitment to the scouting principles of honesty and fairness and has consistently conducted himself in a manner becoming of an Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, in a world which all too often seems to dwell on the negative aspects of the actions of our youth, it is especially fitting and proper for this body to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary young man.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Matthew James Barker for his diligence and dedication in pursuing the highest honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America and congratulate him on attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Matthew James Barker.
