RESOLUTION
Commending
Steven Smith upon being named the 2005 winner of the Kansas One Shot Governor's
Turkey Hunt Essay Contest; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Steven Smith's outstanding essay on "Life Lessons One can Learn Through Hunting"
was selected as the winner in the 19th annual Kansas One Shot Governor's Turkey
Hunt Essay Contest; and
WHEREAS,
the contest is open to JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and
Sportsmanship) members of the National Wild Turkey Federation age 12 through 18
and was created to introduce young people to the outdoors and help instill an
understanding of the need to protect and promote out outdoor resources;
and
WHEREAS,
as the winner, Steven Smith attends the National Wild Turkey Federation's
convention held in Nashville, Tennessee, and will fly to Kansas in April to hunt
with Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius; and
WHEREAS,
his superb essay focuses on the patience, persistence, responsibility, respect,
and spirituality that can be learned through hunting, and this exemplary young
sportsman consistently exhibits these excellent and important qualities;
and
WHEREAS,
the Reidsville community and the State of Georgia take great pride in the
accomplishment of this promising young man.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending Steven Smith, winner of the 2005 Kansas One Shot Governor's Turkey
Hunt Essay Contest and extend to him their sincere best wishes on his journey to
Kansas.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Steven Smith.
