Senate Resolution 122

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. George Alexander on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, displaying the exceptional leadership and amiable nature that would come to characterize his career, Mr. George Alexander was voted "Friendliest" by his senior peers at Campbell High School and was elected President of the Class of 1967; and

WHEREAS, he went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he earned his bachelor's degree in education, and Georgia State University, where he earned his master's degree and educational specialist degree; and

WHEREAS, he was recognized as a STAR teacher in 1980 and was named Teacher of the Year in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander's talent as a classroom teacher is most evident in the fond regard of his fellow teachers, superiors, parents, and especially the students he taught at Daniel Middle School, Walton High School, and Lassiter High School; and

WHEREAS, in the course of his distinguished career, he helped to open the doors of two new schools and, through his outstanding leadership, earned the esteem and admiration of his colleagues as Assistant Principal of Wheeler High School and Principal of Etowah High School; and

WHEREAS, he is also an avid golfer, has coached little league baseball, and is the founder of the Northwest Baseball Association, which has grown into the largest traveling team organization in the country; and

WHEREAS, his good nature and friendly smile will be sorely missed in the hallways of Etowah High School.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Mr. George Alexander for his many years of enthusiasm and drive in the service of education, his persistent hard work, and his untiring dedication to Georgia's youth and extend their sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of his retirement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. George Alexander.
