RESOLUTION
Commending
the University of West Georgia Debate Team, champions of the second Annual
Cal-Berkeley tournament; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in a 3-0 decision in the championship round, the University of West Georgia
Debate Team defeated Northwestern University to win the second Annual
Cal-Berkeley tournament; and
WHEREAS,
West Georgia finished the tournament with an impressive 12-0 record to sweep the
elimination rounds with a series of unanimous victories; and
WHEREAS,
West Georgia overwhelmed several of the top teams from around the country,
including Dartmouth, Harvard, and Northwestern, whom they defeated in
consecutive elimination rounds; and
WHEREAS,
earlier in the season, West Georgia also captured the championship at the Las
Vegas Round Robin tournament; and
WHEREAS,
with their enthusiastic dedication and exceptional talent, James Thomas, a
junior from Roswell, and Joe Koehle, a junior from Erie, Pennsylvania, have
earned a reputation as an aggressive and intellectually rigorous team of
competitors; and
WHEREAS,
the national accomplishments of this outstanding team have brought great credit
and honor to the University of West Georgia and the entire state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the University of West Georgia Debate Team on their phenomenal win at the second
Annual Cal-Berkeley tournament and extend their best wishes for the team's
continued success.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copies of this resolution to University of West
Georgia Debate Team members James Thomas and Joe Koehle.
