RESOLUTION
Commending
and congratulating the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra first began performing concerts in 1945 as the
Atlanta Youth Symphony; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has since grown into an internationally renowned,
fully professional orchestra; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs more than 200 concerts each year to a
combined audience estimated at over half a million; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra has an impressive history of 18 Grammy winning
performances as well as winning an Audio Excellence Award and Gramophone and
Ovation magazine awards; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is the foremost cultural organization in the
southeastern United States and serves as a cornerstone for artistic development
in the region; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs an art that is crucial to the cultural
and economic health of Atlanta and the whole of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
in 2005, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra celebrates its sixtieth year in
existence.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
commending and congratulating the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on its 60 years of
outstanding performances and its contributions to Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Music Director of the
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Robert Spano, and to the Board of Directors of the
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
