A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Orrin Hudson and the Project Destiny chess team on its first place win at the 2006 Georgia Association for Alternative Education state-wide chess championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, one of several alternative educational schools in Georgia, Project Destiny competed in the first annual Georgia Association for Alternative Education state-wide chess championship; and

WHEREAS, top chess players across the state competed, kicking off a new tradition of teaching students life mastery skills through the game of chess; and

WHEREAS, the Project Destiny students of DeKalb County Schools, coached by nationally renowned motivational speaker and chess champion Orrin Hudson, won first place in the state-wide chess championship; and

WHEREAS, Orrin Hudson is the founder of Be Someone, Inc., a crime prevention and educational nonprofit organization that has mentored more than 16,000 students since 2000; and

WHEREAS, students completing Mr. Hudsońs program experience an increase in classroom participation, grade point averages, and attendance, along with improved mental acuity, concentration, and problem solving skills; and

WHEREAS, chess is a challenging centuries-old game that requires intelligence, concentration, and strategy; and

WHEREAS, the Project Destiny chess team has brought great honor to its school and community for its outstanding performance at the Georgia Association for Alternative Education state-wide chess championship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate the Project Destiny chess team and its coach, Orrin Hudson, on their first place win at the Georgia Association for Alternative Education state-wide chess championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Orrin Hudson and the Project Destiny chess team.
