Senate Resolution 27

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending 1st Lieutenant Patrick Evans for his outstanding service in the United States Army; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, after graduating from North Georgia College and State University where he participated in the ROTC program for four years, 1st Lieutenant Patrick Evans accepted a commission in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, he has demonstrated exceptional skill and intelligence as the Executive Officer of Alpha Company of the 2nd Squadron, 14th Calvary Regiment, 1st Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division (the Stryker Brigade Combat Team); and

WHEREAS, under his decisive leadership, his Recce Platoon has earned a reputation for great energy and ability and have proven themselves capable of handling the most difficult missions with agility and precision; and

WHEREAS, on December 21, 2004, 1st Lieutenant Evans suffered severe injury in the bombing of the Mess Hall at Forward Operating Base Mariz outside of Mosul, Iraq; and

WHEREAS, in a manner characteristic of his service record, he has exhibited extreme courage, resilience, and fortitude throughout his recovery; and

WHEREAS, by his fine example, 1st Lieutenant Evans has brought great honor and distinction to his alma mater, North Georgia College and State University, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending 1st Lieutenant Patrick Evans for his brave and admirable service in the defense of the United States of America and the liberation of the citizens of Iraq and extend their most sincere wishes for his full and speedy recovery.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to 1st Lieutenant Patrick Evans.
