RESOLUTION
Commending
St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital and St. Mary's Community Center, recipients of the
National Achievement Citation award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
St. Joseph's/Candler Health System has delivered high quality health care and
compassion to the Savannah community for more than three centuries;
and
WHEREAS,
St. Mary's Community Center, one of many community outreach initiatives
sponsored by St. Joseph's/Candler, was awarded the Catholic Health Association's
most prestigious honor, the 2004 National Achievement Citation award, at the
89th Catholic Health Assembly; and
WHEREAS,
since April 12, 2000, St. Mary's Community Center has been providing essential
health services, education and job training, and meeting basic needs within
Savannah's Cuyler-Brownsville neighborhood as well as bringing other
collaborating services and programs into the community and making them
accessible to its residents; and
WHEREAS,
St. Mary's employees and volunteers have consistently displayed great energy and
compassion and, with the support of St. Joseph's/Candler, have revitalized this
neighborhood and changed countless lives through their message of hope and
encouragement; and
WHEREAS,
St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital and St. Mary's Community Center are organizations
exemplary of the best qualities of citizenship and community service and merit
the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is honored and proud to have such fine facilities serving
its Savannah community.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
recognizing and commending St. Joseph's/Candler Health System and St. Mary's
Community Center for their devotion and service to the Savannah community and
congratulate them on receiving the Catholic Health Association's 2004 National
Achievement Citation.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Mr. Paul Hinchey, President
and CEO, St. Joseph's/Candler, and Sister Pat Baber, RSM, Director, St. Mary's
Community Center.
