RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring John Evans; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John Evans is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, where he received both his
elementary and high school education; and
WHEREAS,
he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at
Mississippi Valley State University, a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee
A&I State University, and completed his Master in Business Administration
(MBA) degree at Atlanta University; and
WHEREAS,
after graduation, Mr. Evans moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he worked as an
accountant with Standard Oil Company and as an internal auditor for Commonwealth
Edison Company, a public utility; and
WHEREAS,
John Evans moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to serve as a business manager for the
Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), one of the five schools in the
Atlanta University Center, a position he held for 13 years; and
WHEREAS,
the father of three grown children, Harvey, Darla, and Malia, he also has five
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he is a member of Ousley United Methodist Church, where the Dr. Michael McQueen
is pastor; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Evans has received many awards for his community involvement, including the
DeKalb County Community Development Service Award, Community Pride Day
Outstanding Service Award in the East Atlanta Community, DeKalb NAACP David C.
Albert Award, and Atlanta Business League Torch Bearer Award; and
WHEREAS,
John Evans is a former member of the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners and
former president of the DeKalb NAACP; and
WHEREAS,
John Evans is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and is currently the
president and CEO of Operation LEAD (Leadership to End All
Discrimination).
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
recognizing and honoring John Evans for his outstanding service to DeKalb County
and to the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to John Evans.
