RESOLUTION
Commending
Ashley Smith for her heroism; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
in March, 2005, Ashley Smith heroically faced a terrifying situation, risking
her own life to prevent harm from coming to others; and
WHEREAS,
relying on her faith to see her through the ordeal, she remained calm and
levelheaded despite the danger in which she found herself; and
WHEREAS,
she believed that there was a life purpose for her which has undoubtedly
culminated in these pivotal circumstances and, through her merciful kindness,
she shared this message of hope with the man that had taken her hostage;
and
WHEREAS,
even her captor came to recognize her great strength of spirit, calling her "an
angel sent from God," and was moved by the love she expressed for her daughter;
and
WHEREAS,
after the peaceful resolution of this potentially grim situation, which the
authorities have largely credited to her remarkable composure, she has further
contributed to her fellow citizens by sharing her story, which has provided
valuable insights for dealing with such frightening situations; and
WHEREAS,
the citizens of this state owe Ashley Smith a debt of gratitude and it is
abundantly fitting and proper that her strength of spirit be recognized
appropriately.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Ashley Smith upon her unparalleled display of courage and fortitude and express
their deepest gratitude for her brave and unselfish actions.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Ashley Smith.
