A
RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mr. Tam H. Easterwood; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Tam H. Easterwood served as the Director of Bands at East Coweta High School
for 11 years from the fall of 1983 through December of 1994; and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure the band collected hundreds of honors, including a string of
14 straight Grand Championship Awards in marching band competitions;
and
WHEREAS,
the Symphonic Band was invited to play for the Georgia Music Educators State
Convention in 1992; and
WHEREAS,
the Marching Band was invited to perform on two different occasions in the
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade; and
WHEREAS,
in 1994, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade honored the East Coweta Marching
Indians by inviting them to serve as the lead band for the entire parade;
and
WHEREAS,
the band was invited to perform at the Lord Mayor's New Years Day Parade in
London, England; and
WHEREAS,
as an educator, Mr. Easterwood was responsible for eight other world
championship titles while working with both drum and bugle corps and winter
color guard units; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Easterwood served as an outstanding role model for his students, demanding
of himself the same work ethic and dedication he demanded of them;
and
WHEREAS,
because of his dedication and commitment to music education in Coweta County,
the lives of thousands of students and parents associated with the East Coweta
band program were positively impacted in dozens of ways; and
WHEREAS,
ten years after his passing, his positive effect on his former students,
friends, and colleagues brought them together to honor his memory with a
"Celebration of Life Service."
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the memory and the lifework of the late Mr. Tam H. Easterwood, beloved
friend, talented musician, and outstanding music educator who inspired so many
with his greatness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Tam H.
Easterwood.
