RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., for his outstanding public service; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., was born on September 6, 1918, in his beloved hometown
of Soperton, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he represented the citizens of his community will great skill and distinction,
serving in both the Senate and the House of Representatives with more than 50
years of combined legislative experience, and, during this time, he earned the
highest respect and admiration of his colleagues who have often called upon his
expertise and sound advice; and
WHEREAS,
his six years of service as Senate President Pro-Tempore stand as an example of
the highest qualities of a just and wise leader and a dedicated public servant;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Gillis is also a successful farmer and timber grower, an active member of
numerous community and civic organizations, and a dedicated family man;
and
WHEREAS,
he has been highly esteemed by his colleagues in the General Assembly for his
strength of character, his persistent dedication to Georgia's citizens, and the
friendship and distinction which he brought to legislative deliberations;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Gillis is one of Georgia's most distinguished citizens and public servants
and merits the sincere thanks and commendation of the State of
Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
recognizing and commending Mr. Hugh M. Gillis, Sr., for his many years of
outstanding public service to the community of Soperton and the State of
Georgia.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Hugh M. Gillis, Sr.
