RESOLUTION
Welcoming
and thanking the citizens, employees, and public officials of DeKalb County, and
declaring Monday, January 31, 2005, "Flavor of DeKalb" Day at the capitol; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
a healthy democracy demands an active interchange of ideas between citizens and
their elected representatives, and public officials and citizens from DeKalb
County are coming to the General Assembly to meet with the area's legislative
delegation; and
WHEREAS,
the views of elected officials from the counties and cities of the state are
always deeply interesting to members of the General Assembly, and the citizens
and public officials from DeKalb County will offer invaluable advice and counsel
to their legislative delegation on this inaugural legislative visit;
and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is strengthened by its diversity, and DeKalb County is one
of the largest and most diverse counties in the Southeast with a population
approaching 700,000 people and a flourishing economy, which employs over 300,000
people; and
WHEREAS,
the officials and citizens of DeKalb County have outstanding leadership in Chief
Executive Officer Vernon Jones; the members of its Board of Commissioners,
Elaine Boyer, Gale Walldorff, Larry Johnson, Burrell Ellis, Hank Johnson, Kathy
Gannon, and Connie Stokes; the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce; and the DeKalb
Convention and Visitors Bureau; and
WHEREAS,
the legislative delegation from DeKalb County awaits the citizens and local
officials' delegation from DeKalb County with eager anticipation both because of
its invaluable advice and counsel and because of the culinary delights which
will be afforded by the Flavor of DeKalb.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body declare
Monday, January 31, 2005, "Flavor of DeKalb" Day at the capitol and extend their
warmest welcome and sincere gratitude to the citizens, employees, and public
officials of DeKalb County.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Vernon Jones, Chief
Executive Officer, DeKalb County, and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners.
