A RESOLUTION

Commending Lieutenant Colonel Stacie Bearden; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on January 1, 2006, Lieutenant Colonel Stacie Bearden retired from the United States Marine Corps after 23 years of honorable service; and

WHEREAS, while a junior at the University of Georgia, Colonel Bearden was selected to enter one of the Marine Corps two officer commissioning programs; and

WHEREAS, with her selection for the Platoon Leader class in Quantico, Virginia, in 1985, Colonel Bearden became the first female from the University of Georgia to enter this prestigious officer commissioning program; and

WHEREAS, as a Marine officer, Colonel Bearden was directly responsible for the welfare of the men and women in her command in the United States, Japan, and Korea; and

WHEREAS, as a Reserve officer, Colonel Bearden was activated during Operation Enduring Freedom, where she served as the executive officer for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron #42 based out of Naval Air Station Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, after many invaluable years of dedicated service to her country, Colonel Bearden ended her career as Senior Aviation Logistics Planner for Marine Corps Pacific.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in commending Lieutenant Colonel Stacie Bearden for her honorable service to the state and the nation.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Lieutenant Colonel Stacie Bearden.
