A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Rudolph Carter Allen; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
born in Columbus, Georgia, Reverend Rudolph Carter Allen was educated in the
Muscogee County School System and the American Baptist Theological Seminary in
Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS,
he has dedicated his life to Christian ministry since June, 1956;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1962, Reverend Allen led a group of college students to demonstrate against
segregation of public accommodation in Columbus, Georgia, a courageous and noble
action that precipitated the desegregation of buses, restaurants, and theaters;
and
WHEREAS,
he is also a devoted husband and beloved father of seven children;
and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Allen has chosen a noble calling and merits the highest commendation
for his extraordinary dedication to eliminating discrimination within society
and to improving the cultural, economic, and spiritual well-being of his fellow
citizens; and
WHEREAS,
his talent and tenacity have earned him respect and regard as one of today's
most intelligent, articulate, and effective civil rights leaders.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join to
recognize and commend Reverend Rudolph Carter Allen as a champion of social
justice and commend his responsible and effective leadership and his exemplary
commitment to the betterment of society.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Rudolph Carter
Allen.
