RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police for its
outstanding service to the law enforcement officers of this state; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police is an organization of sworn
and qualified retired law enforcement professionals volunteering their time for
the betterment of law enforcement and their communities; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police recognized the lifesaving
benefits of bulletproof vests and that all law enforcement officers in Georgia
should wear one; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police created the "Protect the
Protectors" program in 1997 with the goal of making available bulletproof vests
to law enforcement officers across Georgia who cannot afford them;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police, through this program, made
bulletproof vests available at no cost to law enforcement officers or the
agencies where they are employed and with no obligation to be a member of or to
join the Fraternal Order of Police; and
WHEREAS,
since the "Protect the Protectors" program began, the Georgia State Lodge,
Fraternal Order of Police has purchased over 446 bulletproof vests for 67 law
enforcement agencies across Georgia at a cost of $160,560.00.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
recognizing and commending the Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police
for its outstanding "Protect the Protectors" program and its efforts to save the
lives of Georgia´s law enforcement officers.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Executive Board of the
Georgia State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police.
