A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Article 3 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to local boards of education, so as to provide for the start date of a school year to be established by a local board of education; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 3 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to local boards of education, is amended by inserting at the end thereof the following:
"20-2-71.
The board of education of a local school system shall establish a start date for the school year for the elementary and secondary schools of the state that is not earlier than the last Monday in August and not later than the Wednesday after Labor Day."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
