A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to issuance, expiration, and renewal of driverś licenses, so as to require certain specified new drivers to display a bumper decal which decal shall indicate that he or she is a new driver; to provide for related matters; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to issuance, expiration, and renewal of driverś licenses, is amended in Code Section 40-5-24, relating to instruction permits, graduated licensing, and related restrictions and temporary licenses, by striking "and" at the end of subparagraph (b)(2)(A); striking the period and inserting "; and" at the end of subparagraph (b)(2)(B); and inserting a new subparagraph (b)(2)(C) to read as follows:
(C) Any class D license holder shall prominently display in a legible manner on any vehicle driven by a class D license holder a magnetic bumper decal which decal shall be approved by the department. The decal shall state 'NEW DRIVER' and such other related language as required by the department. In addition to any other information authorized by law, the department shall list in the restrictions section of every class D license the designation 'new driver decal.'

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective on January 1, 2007.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
