House Resolution 1029

A RESOLUTION


Commending Georgia veterinarians and inviting certain distinguished leaders of veterinary medicine in this state to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Georgia veterinarians use their scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge; and

WHEREAS, Georgia veterinarians protect the health and welfare of animals in this state that provide companionship, food, and fiber; and

WHEREAS, veterinarians are an important link in Georgia´s public health system and in agriculture and food defense; and

WHEREAS, veterinarians own and operate small businesses in communities both large and small throughout Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association has been the voice of organized veterinary medicine for more than 100 years; and

WHEREAS, Honorable Sonny Perdue, the Governor of this great state, is a veterinarian.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Georgia veterinarians and the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association for their contributions to improve the health and welfare of Georgia´s companion animals, livestock herds, and poultry flocks.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the following distinguished leaders in veterinary medicine are invited to appear before the House of Representatives on a date and at such time as determined by the Speaker of the House: Dr. Karen Wylie, Georgia Veterinary Medical Association president; Dr. Ed. Mahaffey, Georgia Veterinary Medical Association, Legislative Action Committee chairperson; Dr. Becky Malphus, Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine chairperson; Dr. Sheila Allen, University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine dean; Dr. Carter Black, Georgia State Veterinarian; Dr. Vince Obsitnik, "Veterinarians' Day at the Capitol" coordinator; and Dr. Jim McClearen, Georgia Veterinarian Association president-elect.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to each of the above-named persons.
