RESOLUTION
Commending
and recognizing Linda Stallworth Williams; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Linda Williams has been teaching for 21 years, dreaming to do so since
pre-school; and
WHEREAS,
she earned her undergraduate degree at the University of West Georgia in 1972,
earned her masters at the University of Central Oklahoma in 1986, and earned her
Doctorate of Philosophy in higher education administration at the University of
Oklahoma in 1990; and
WHEREAS,
she began teaching English at North Georgia College and State University in
1997, enjoying most of all teaching first-year composition to undergraduates and
seeing them realize that they could become good writers; and
WHEREAS,
this commitment to reaching undergraduate writers by teaching and learning from
them was recognized in 2001, when she received the Dorothy Golden award for
Excellence in the Teaching of Composition; and
WHEREAS,
Linda Williams was recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as the 2007 Georgia
Professor of the Year, chosen from among 300 top professors in the United
States; and
WHEREAS,
the Professor of the Year Award is based on dedication to undergraduate teaching
and determined by excellence in involvement with students; scholarly approach to
teaching; and contributions to undergraduate education in the institution,
community, and profession.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Linda Stallworth Williams for her outstanding service to the
State of Georgia and the United States, commend her dedication to excellence in
education, and express sincere appreciation for her efforts.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Linda
Stallworth Williams.
