RESOLUTION
Urging
the Federal Trade Commission to remove the exemption for politicians from being
subject to the National Do Not Call Registry; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
during the campaign season many Georgians receive numerous telephone calls from
politicians or their supporters urging them to vote for the candidate;
and
WHEREAS,
many Georgians are annoyed by these unsolicited calls and do not wish to receive
them; and
WHEREAS,
the National Do Not Call Registry was established by the Federal Trade
Commission in order to block unwanted solicitations from being delivered over
the telephone; and
WHEREAS,
politicians are using the same telemarketing techniques to sell their candidacy
in much the same way as businesses market their products.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body urge the Federal Trade Commission to remove the exemption for
politicians from being subject to the National Do Not Call
Registry.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the
chairperson of the Federal Trade Commission.
