By: Representative Rice of the 51st

A RESOLUTION

Urging the Federal Trade Commission to remove the exemption for politicians from being subject to the National Do Not Call Registry; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, during the campaign season many Georgians receive numerous telephone calls from politicians or their supporters urging them to vote for the candidate; and

WHEREAS, many Georgians are annoyed by these unsolicited calls and do not wish to receive them; and

WHEREAS, the National Do Not Call Registry was established by the Federal Trade Commission in order to block unwanted solicitations from being delivered over the telephone; and

WHEREAS, politicians are using the same telemarketing techniques to sell their candidacy in much the same way as businesses market their products.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body urge the Federal Trade Commission to remove the exemption for politicians from being subject to the National Do Not Call Registry.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the chairperson of the Federal Trade Commission.
