RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Karin Slaughter; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Karin Slaughter is a daughter of Georgia and a number one international
bestselling thriller writer and one of Georgia's most gifted writers;
and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Slaughter was born in Newton County, Georgia, and has happily lived her
entire life in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she is the daughter of esteemed businessman and dedicated civic servant, Howard
Slaughter, of Fannin County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
she has been a writer since the age of six and was inspired to make writing her
vocation at the urging of her Morrow High School English teacher, Mrs. Billie
Bennett; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Slaughter is inspired by the rich storytelling traditions of great Southern
writers such as Flannery O'Connor, Harper Lee, and James Dickey, as well as the
commitment and dedication of the teachers and librarians of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
whether traveling to over two dozen countries or touring this great nation, Ms.
Slaughter always returns home to Georgia, her daddy, and her roots.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize Ms. Karin Slaughter and commend her on her
accomplishments.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Karin
Slaughter.
