A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Glenn Burns and inviting him to appear before the House of Representatives; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Glenn Burns has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital
leadership role that he has played in forecasting the weather which affects each
of us on a daily basis and for his deep personal commitment to the welfare of
the citizens of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced
dramatically by his 25 years of superlative service as a meteorologist at WSB-TV
Channel 2; and
WHEREAS,
he began his broadcasting career at age 14 working part-time for WSVN-TV in
Miami, Florida, and since that time this Chief Meteorologist has established
himself as an expert on forecasting and tracking severe storms with Doppler
Radar, resulting in warnings of dangerous weather conditions that have saved
countless lives; and
WHEREAS,
he has made significant contributions to the education of our country's youth by
developing programs such as "Weather School" designed to help elementary and
middle school students better understand the complexities of meteorology;
and
WHEREAS,
his remarkable talents have been widely recognized as evidenced from the
numerous awards he has received from the Civil Defense, the Red Cross, Minnesota
Teacher's Association, the National Hurricane Center, and the University of
Florida as well as being voted Atlanta's best meteorologist by many
publications; and
WHEREAS,
this former intern of the National Hurricane Center under then Director, Dr.
Neil Frank, and Deputy Director, Dr. Joseph Pellisier, was even proclaimed an
Admiral in the "Georgia Navy" by Governor Joe Frank Harris;
and
WHEREAS, this devoted family man, a loving husband to his beautiful wife Susan and a wonderful father to their two children, Kimberly and Christopher, manages to find time to stay involved in area charities, including the Center for Family Resources, which his wife helped establish for young mothers in order to give them a second chance; and

WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
citizens of his community have earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates and most especially the trust of the public who rely
upon his accuracy and expertise.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Glenn Burns for his 25 years with WSB-TV Channel 2 providing
efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service, extend to him
their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness, and invite
him to appear before the House of Representatives on a date and at a time to be
determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Glenn Burns.
