House Resolution 1509

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending George "Bud" Dyer; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, he began employment in 1971 as the Director of Admissions for Young Harris College; and

WHEREAS, upon his retirement in 2002, he was the longest continuously serving director of college admissions in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dyer is regarded as a legend in the admissions profession by his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, he will close out his work with Young Harris College´s admissions office in 2008 after 37 years of service; and

WHEREAS, he has traveled hundreds of thousands of miles on the road in his recruiting efforts and has encouraged thousands of students to enroll at Young Harris College; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Dyer has provided a number of invaluable services to the college: he was an advisor to Kappa Tau Omega fraternity for 33 years, he developed and raised admissions standards thereby improving the college's reputation in the market place, and he was responsible for keeping enrollment viable and strong during challenging times at the college; and

WHEREAS, he will continue his association with Young Harris College and utilize his great experience by serving as an academic advisor in the student success center; and

WHEREAS, he is active in Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church, where he sings in the choir; and

WHEREAS, he is very active in civic organizations and has been a strong contributor to his community; and

WHEREAS, he is a founding member of the Young Harris Volunteer Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, he is a devoted husband and father to his wife, Woodie, and his children, Lew, Jeff, Frank, and Ann; and

WHEREAS, he is known for his outgoing personality, his sharp wit, and for his lifetime of devotion to students at Young Harris College.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. George "Bud" Dyer and congratulate him on his retirement from the admissions office at Young Harris College and wish him much success for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. George "Bud" Dyer.
