A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Taylor Mullinax; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Taylor Mullinax, an esteemed resident of Rock Spring, Georgia, and a student at Gordon Lee High School in Chickamauga, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Mullinax earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to children undergoing treatment for cancer at hospitals in Chattanooga, Atlanta, and New York City by making 300 autographable "chemo hats"; and

WHEREAS, she purchases fabric and autograph markers with allowance and birthday money, cuts patterns, sews the hats, bags each one with a personal note, and delivers them to the young patients; and

WHEREAS, the success of the State of Georgia, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Ms. Mullinax who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and

WHEREAS, in a world which consistently seems to accentuate the negative aspects of the actions of young people, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary individual.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together in recognizing Ms. Taylor Mullinax and commend her on her outstanding service to young cancer patients, her community, and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Taylor Mullinax.
