A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and congratulating the Cobb County Sheriff's Office on the occasion of its 175th
anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Cobb County Sheriff's Office was established in 1832 and has been providing
law enforcement services to the citizens of Cobb County for 175 years;
and
WHEREAS,
on March 20, 1833, when the county population was only 1,500 and the most common
crimes were public drunkenness and fighting, Mr. Tandy Martin was sworn in as
Cobb County's first sheriff; and
WHEREAS,
as a Constitutional officer elected every four years, the sheriff is the highest
ranking law enforcement official in Cobb County whose responsibility is to
maintain the peace and protect the lives and property of residents;
and
WHEREAS,
Cobb County's population has now grown to over 650,000, and the men and women of
the sheriff's office must confront crime at a level of sophistication their
predecessors would never have envisioned; and
WHEREAS,
since the inception of the sheriff's office, there have been 42 elected sheriffs
with the vision, leadership, and courage to plan and prepare for the future and
meet the challenges that have confronted each new generation; and
WHEREAS,
Sheriff Bill Hutson, elected in 1976, served seven consecutive terms and was the
longest serving sheriff in the county's history; and
WHEREAS,
the agency is currently under the leadership and command of Sheriff Neil Warren,
a law enforcement professional with over 35 years of experience;
and
WHEREAS,
the Cobb County Sheriff's Office is to be commended and honored for providing
175 years of law enforcement services with the highest degree of integrity and
professionalism; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with
particularity the outstanding accomplishments of the Cobb County Sheriff's
Office and its employees.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize and congratulate the Cobb County Sheriff's
Office on the occasion of its 175th anniversary and commend its employees for
the outstanding services it continues to provide to the community and the
state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Sheriff Neil
Warren.
