RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Yasheeka Jones, a great high school basketball player; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Yasheeka Jones proved to be an essential part of the Stephenson High School Lady
Jaguars basketball team and their spectacular 2007-2008 season that culminated
in a GHSA State Class AAAAA Championship victory; and
WHEREAS,
thanks to the outstanding abilities of players like Yasheeka Jones, the
Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars dominated and defeated Redan High School by
the score of 66 to 51 to capture the state girls basketball title for a second
time in four years; and
WHEREAS,
the Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars basketball team, composed of amazingly
talented athletes, has proven itself to be one of the greatest basketball
programs in Georgia High School Association history with an overall record of
224-66 wins; seven straight regional championships; eight straight state
appearances; three final four appearances in 2005, 2006, and 2007; one runner-up
title in the state championship; and two state championships; and
WHEREAS,
the hard work, determination, and competitive spirit of the exceptional Jaguars
girls basketball team helped the players to realize a dream not only for
themselves but for their school, and their great achievements will influence
their personal growth and offer them memories they will cherish for a lifetime;
and
WHEREAS,
Yasheeka Jones, an exceptional young athlete, has demonstrated remarkable
ability, motivation, resilience, and teamwork and has rightfully earned the
reputation as one of the best high school basketball players in the state;
and
WHEREAS,
this amazing young lady has benefited greatly from the expert training,
dedication, and encouragement provided by the instruction of Head Coach Dennis
C. Watkins, Jr., and Assistant Coaches Reginald Harris, Cedric Vinson, and Kathy
Johnson as well as the tremendous support of the team managers, the principal
and faculty of Stephenson High School, the team´s many dedicated fans, and
her loving family members; and
WHEREAS,
this outstanding athlete has brought great honor and credit to her family,
coaches, community, and Georgia and stands as a positive role model for other
young people for setting goals and working hard to achieve greatness; it is only
fitting that this body should recognize the extraordinary talent and
contributions of this wonderful athlete.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body
commends Yasheeka Jones on her phenomenal performance as a member of the
Stephenson High School Lady Jaguars basketball team and wishes her success in
each of her future endeavors.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Yasheeka
Jones.
