A
RESOLUTION
Expressing
congratulations and best wishes to Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith on the occasion of
her 90th birthday; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith, beloved homemaker, mother, and esteemed citizen of the
State of Georgia, celebrates her 90th birthday this year; and
WHEREAS,
she was born January 28,1917, to Henry Grady and Essie Corine Richardson in
Gresston, Georgia, and moved to Atlanta when she was two years old; and
WHEREAS,
she grew up in the Kirkwood and Grant Park neighborhoods, where she attended
Murphy High School, and remained a lifelong resident of Georgia´s capital
city; and
WHEREAS,
she met her first husband, the late Foster "Speedy" Ellington, while working at
Sears Roebuck & Company, and the two enjoyed 27 beautiful years of marriage
before his unfortunate passing, raising three wonderful children, Diane, Ronald,
and Cathy; and
WHEREAS,
she remarried in 1973 to the late Walter "Smitty" Smith, Jr.; and
WHEREAS,
Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith is the eldest member of both the Ellington and Smith
extended families which includes two stepdaughters, seven grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith is blessed with a rare vitality that commands the awe
and respect of loved ones and neighbors alike.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body hereby recognize the inspirational life of Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith
and extend her their most sincere congratulations and best wishes on the
occasion of her 90th birthday.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ina Ruth Ellington-Smith.
