House Resolution 1939

A RESOLUTION


Recognizing D. Makeda Johnson; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, D. Makeda Johnson has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that she has played in community leadership and her deep personal commitment to public service and the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of her state as evidenced dramatically by her service as an accomplished community advocate for the promotion of livable communities that promote holistic community revitalization, an artist, and ordained minister, and she has over 15 years of experience working with youth and their families; and

WHEREAS, she was the owner of the House of Ujama, has worked with the Greater Vine City Opportunity program and the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness, and she is the executive director of Sisters Action Team, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, she serves as president of Centennial Place Elementary School, chair of Neighborhood Planning Unit-L, and an appointed member of the Westside TAD advisory board, and the Coretta Scott-King memorial commission; and

WHEREAS, she received her education at Bronx Community College in New York, City University of NewYork, and Mercer University in Macon, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of Atlanta and the State of Georgia have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend D. Makeda Johnson for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of Atlanta and this state and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to D. Makeda Johnson.
