A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Birdie Mallory; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Birdie Mallory is a born leader in the areas of public service and volunteerism and is highly recognized as such throughout the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable woman moved to Atlanta nearly 20 years ago, and just a few years thereafter, she began volunteering with the Neighborhood Planning Unit by organizing seniors in the community; and

WHEREAS, she was later appointed to the Atlanta Empowerment Zone Board and served for four years as a neighborhood representative helping youth and seniors; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Mallory is one of those rare individuals who always puts the needs of others first; and

WHEREAS, her community activities include working at voter registration drives at MARTA stations, churches, and schools, and she has achieved such spectacular results as registering more than 1,000 new voters in 1997 and registering more than 200 new members for the NAACP; and

WHEREAS, as a resident of Wheat Street Towers, she serves as president of the Golden Age Club, organizing programs to benefit the community's less mobile residents; as a volunteer at the Sweet Auburn Market, soliciting donations; and as a volunteer at the Big Bethel AME Church Help Center, assisting homeless citizens; and

WHEREAS, her tireless dedication has been recognized by the NAACP who has awarded her the Warrior Award and the Community Service Award; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being a member of the NACCP, she is also a member of the Golden Age Club and United Negro Women; and

WHEREAS, this wonderful mother of five children, loving grandmother to ten grandchildren, and devoted great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren is extremely gifted in poetry recitation and also enjoys reading and playing bingo; and

WHEREAS, she lives by the motto, "When all is said and done, may the work I've done speak for me," and the work she has done says that she is a hardworking, selfless individual with a kind and generous heart who is an indispensable servant of the Atlanta community; who has brought honor to her family and to the State of Georgia; and to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Ms. Birdie Mallory for the exemplary leader that she is and commend her for her many contributions to the City of Atlanta and this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Birdie Mallory.
