A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
John Mayes; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
John Mayes is the recipient of a Heart of the Community award sponsored by the
Redmond Regional Medical Center and produced by the Heart of the Community Board
of Governors; and
WHEREAS,
he is a native of Rome, Georgia, born in 1952 to the late John and Louise Mayes,
and he attended Main Elementary and High School, and East Rome High School his
senior year, winning the praise of his teachers for his earnest dedication to
education; and
WHEREAS,
he attended Albany State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration in 1974, and after college he attended Kroger's
management program in Rome, going to work for them and later being transferred
to Atlanta, learning from Kroger the management skills that would assist him in
operating his own business; and
WHEREAS,
in 1983 he started a small janitorial business called Pro Systems, and his
attitude of personal discipline eventually paid off in that it did not take
others long to recognize the quality of his work, and in 1995 his company was
awarded the Greater Rome Chamber's Small Business of the Year award;
and
WHEREAS,
this year, Pro Systems celebrates is 25th year, employing dozens of young
people, helping launch their careers; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Mayes is an active member of his community, serving on numerous boards and
associations, and has been a Floyd County Commissioner since 1999, serving as
vice-chairman in 1999 and 2007 and as chairman in 2000, 2001, and 2006, and
great progress can be tied to his service including the passing of three SPLOST
packages, the new health department, State Mutual Stadium, and the prison
facility; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Mayes was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the State Department of
Corrections Board, a post he continues to serve; and
WHEREAS,
he is a loving husband to his wife of 13 years, Terri, and they are the proud
parents of Johnnie, Chad, Shane, Tiffany, Taylor, and Russell and grandparents
of eight grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he is a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and along with his pastor
helped to form an organization called Mission 2000 in Ghana, a project funding
construction of churches while feeding and supporting their local communites;
and
WHEREAS,
his scope of service extends from Rome to Africa, encompasses all citizens of
all races and creeds, and is helping to build a better community for generations
to come.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize John Mayes for the outstanding
contributions he makes to his community and this state and congratulate him on
being named a Heart of the Community Honoree for 2008.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby
authorized and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to John Mayes.
