House Resolution 39

A RESOLUTION


Expressing regret at the passing of Mr. Gerald Jordan; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gerald Jordan was born on November 2, 1956, the son of R.L. Jordan and Bonnie Alexander Jordan; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from Commerce High School in 1975, and from Broadcasting School in Atlanta, and he hosted an hour-long sports oriented show on television channel 34 in Athens, was part owner of Benton Furniture in Commerce over 30 years ago, and was part owner of Hyman Brown Insurance Agency in Commerce over 20 years ago; and

WHEREAS, he founded cable television channel 95 in Commerce, was part owner of WJJC Radio, and was the voice of Commerce Tiger Athletics for 27 years; and

WHEREAS, he was very involved in civic matters, and he was a member of the Downtown Development Authority, a member and president of the Commerce Booster Club, and a member of the Commerce Area Business Association, and he coached children 15 through 17 years of age in recreational sports for over 20 years, served as umpire and referee throughout north Georgia, was past president of the Umpires Association, headed the City Light Festival Committee, volunteered to emcee countless local events, and was a founding member of The High Flying Jordans, a gospel singing group that released over 30 albums; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jordan was married to Denise Epps for 13 years, and he had one son, Caleb, and three stepsons, Jake, Eli, and Charlie; and

WHEREAS, he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express regret at the passing of Mr. Gerald Jordan, and convey their condolences to his family and friends.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Denise Epps.
