A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Anthony L. Reeves; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Anthony L. Reeves, an outstanding young man raised in the Georgia foster care
system, has been selected as the first Georgian to join the national FosterClub
All-Star team; and
WHEREAS,
more than a half million children are currently living in foster care throughout
the United States, and thousands of children are in foster care in Georgia
alone; and
WHEREAS,
FosterClub is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that was founded by
a foster parent in 1999 to provide foster youth with the intensive leadership
and public speaking training they need to become effective leaders in the foster
care community; and
WHEREAS,
each year, FosterClub selects and trains a number of current and former foster
youth from hundreds of applicants nation-wide to be FosterClub All-Stars and
dispatches these talented young people to teen conferences and foster care
related events across the country to motivate and educate their peers and raise
public awareness on issues of critical importance to young people in the foster
care system; and
WHEREAS,
Anthony L. Reeves entered the Georgia foster care system at the age of eleven
and experienced multiple placements throughout his youth; and
WHEREAS,
in 2006, he was selected from a group of more than 300 national applicants as
the first FosterClub All-Star team member from Georgia, and throughout his
tenure on the All-Star team, he has served as an inspiration to other foster
youths in Georgia and throughout the country; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to his service for FosterClub, he serves as a relief parent for
Families First and regularly speaks on behalf of foster care groups such as
Metro Atlanta Youth Opportunities Initiative and Families First, and in 2006, he
worked with First Lady Mary Perdue on foster care initiatives; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Reeves graduated from Banneker High School in College Park, earned an
associate's degree, and is now working toward a bachelor's degree at DeVry
University in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
his actions have brought honor to the State of Georgia and the United
States.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in recognizing Anthony L. Reeves for his outstanding advocacy on
behalf of children in the foster care system, commend him on his selection as
the first Georgian member of the national FosterClub All-Star team, and extend
to him their sincerest best wishes for his future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Anthony L.
Reeves.
