RESOLUTION
Expressing
regret at the passing of Captain Hayes Clayton, Jr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia has lost one of its finest and most distinguished young
individuals with the untimely passing of Army Captain Hayes Clayton, Jr.; and
WHEREAS,
while the loss of any loved one is a terrible event, the loss of this young man
is especially tragic, as he died in the line of duty on Christmas Day of the
year 2006, serving the United States in the country of Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
Hayes Clayton, Jr., was born in Memphis and moved to Georgia when he was still
young; and
WHEREAS,
he is widely remembered in the Marietta community for his outstanding athletic
performance as the Blue Devils' starting defensive end for Marietta High
School's 1995 football season; and
WHEREAS,
Hayes had dreamed to one day to run for office, so upon entering Fort Valley
State University, he studied political science and joined the Army ROTC; and
WHEREAS,
upon graduation in 2002, he began active military service, traveling initially
to Camp Casey in South Korea, where he met his wife, Army First Lt. Monica
Clayton; and
WHEREAS,
his unfortunate departure has left scars upon the hearts of grieving friends,
family, and fellow soldiers in Georgia and throughout the world;
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this
body join together in honoring the memory of Captain Hayes Clayton, Jr., and
extending the deepest and most sincere condolences to his family and
friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Captain Hayes
Clayton, Jr.
