A RESOLUTION


Commending and honoring Gordon Pirkle; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon Pirkle was born on December 27, 1936, in Dawson County, Georgia, a seventh generation Dawson County resident; and he graduated from Dawson County High School in 1955 and was united in marriage to Idilene Bennett in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Pirkle has long been recognized by the citizens of Dawson County and this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community as evidenced by his record of superlative service as chairman of the Georgia Amusement and Music Operators Association, charter member of the Dawson County Jaycees, executive leader of the Star Bright Foundation and KARE For Kids, organizer of the Mountain Moonshine Festival, and substantial supporter of the Partners in Education and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon Pirkle is a remarkable entrepreneur and business leader as demonstrated by his opening the Lanier Vending Company, Inc., and the Dawsonville Pool Room and his operation of the Corner Café and The Champions Café; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Pirkle is a devoted husband to his wife Idilene and loving father to their four children, Lawton, Frankie, Hayley, and Gordon Jr., and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to his 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, his significant leadership talents and his sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of his community have earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates as demonstrated by his receipt of many awards and recognitions, including an award of appreciation from the Bill Elliott and Coors Melling Race Team, the Leader of the Year award from the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, and an honorary Key to the City of Dawsonville; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman is a person of magnanimous strengths and, by the example he has made of his life, he makes this world a better place in which to live; and on December 27, 2006, he enjoyed the distinction of celebrating his 70th birthday.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Gordon Pirkle for his effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service; congratulate him upon the occasion of his 70th birthday; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Gordon Pirkle.
