A RESOLUTION


Commending Paige Hood for her heroic actions; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on December 19, 2007, Paige Hood, who was 12 years old at the time, was at her home in Covington, Georgia, when she realized something was wrong with her grandmother, 71 year old Betty Harden; and

WHEREAS, her grandmother had suffered a stroke, and Paige called 911 and relayed all the necessary information to Covington-Newton County 911 Dispatcher Laurel Roysden, who stayed on the line with the girl until help arrived; and

WHEREAS, Harden was subsequently airlifted to St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, where she received treatment, and after the emergency, Ms. Roysden commended Paige, remarking that she did exceptionally well, staying calm the entire time, providing necessary details that aided first responders, and probably, through her actions, saving her grandmother's life; and

WHEREAS, Paige and 12 other children were honored for making lifesaving 911 calls by Governor Sonny Perdue and Georgia Emergency Management Agency Director Charley English in a ceremony at the state capitol; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this young person be recognized for her outstanding efforts to save the life of her grandmother.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join together to commend Paige Hood for her heroic actions in saving the life of her grandmother.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Paige Hood.
