A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and recognizing February 15, 2007, as "Georgia Chamber of Commerce Business Day"; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the antecedent of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1915 to promote the general welfare of productive industry in the state, advocate a public safety policy favorable to the development of such industries, and oppose propositions that would restrain such development; and

WHEREAS, the leaders of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce have advocated positive and substantive public policy change and played a vital role in the economic growth of our state; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce today aggressively advocates the business viewpoint in the shaping of public policy, encouraging ethical business practices and ensuring the state's future as an economically prosperous, educationally competitive, and environmentally responsible state; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has increased its membership by 160% over the past ten years and now represents more than 4,200 member companies and 2.2 million employees in every sector of business and in every county in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has fulfilled its pledge to raise more than $1 million from the business community to support the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has worked to promote a prosperous future for all Georgians through legislative efforts and through events such as the annual Eggs & Issues Legislative Breakfast, the Red Carpet Tour, and the Georgia Quail Hunt and through partnerships and affiliated programs such as the Georgia Allies, Drugs Don't Work, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, Leadership Georgia, and the Tourism Development Alliance of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the General Assembly will observe February 15, 2007, as "Georgia Chamber of Commerce Business Day" at the state capitol.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in recognizing the leaders and members of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce for their many years of dedicated service to Georgia's economic development, commending their efforts to ensure Georgia's continued competitiveness in our domestic and global economies, and recognizing February 15, 2007, as "Georgia Chamber of Commerce Business Day."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
