RESOLUTION
Commending
Georgia´s emergency medical services professionals and recognizing
Emergency Medical Services Week; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through a coordinated, state-wide network, the emergency medical services
professionals of Georgia respond to almost one million calls for assistance
annually, risking their lives on a daily basis to go to the aid of those in
need; and
WHEREAS,
there are well over 15,000 emergency medical personnel in this state;
and
WHEREAS,
their dedication gives Georgians peace of mind in knowing that, should the need
arise, there will be a well-trained and compassionate emergency medical services
professional available to render swift and effective assistance;
and
WHEREAS,
access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery
rate of persons stricken with sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia´s emergency medical services system is celebrating its
thirty-fourth year of service in 2007.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that this body commends Georgia´s
first responders, emergency medical technicians, cardiac technicians, and
paramedics for their outstanding service to the people of this state and
recognizes May 20 through May 26, 2007, as Emergency Medical Services
Week.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Courtney Terwilliger,
President of the Georgia Association of Emergency Medical Services, and Marty
Billings, Director of the Georgia Office of Emergency Medical Services of the
Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health.
