RESOLUTION
Commending
TEAM Georgia and recognizing February 22, 2007, as "Designate a Driver Day"; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
TEAM Georgia is a safe and sober driving coalition comprised of business
leaders, government, and public safety officials and members of Atlanta´s
professional sporting teams; and
WHEREAS,
since 1985, TEAM Georgia has worked to save lives and reduce injuries on
Georgia´s roads; and
WHEREAS,
TEAM Georgia operates Designated Driver Booths at the Georgia Dome, Philips
Arena, Gwinnett Arena, and Turner Field; and
WHEREAS,
at both the Georgia Dome and Philips Arena, TEAM Georgia has over 10,000
annually pledge not to drink and drive and to be the designated driver for their
group; and
WHEREAS,
at Gwinnett Arena, TEAM Georgia has over 3,000 annually pledge not to drink and
drive and to be the designated driver for their group; and
WHEREAS,
at Turner Field, TEAM Georgia has over 7,000 annually pledge not to drink and
drive and to be the designated driver for their group; and
WHEREAS,
along with the numerous other TEAM Georgia programs such as Safe Holiday, Safe
Prom and Graduation, Safe Boating, and Seat Belt Safety, these designated driver
booths allow TEAM Georgia to educate hundreds of thousands as to the benefits of
designating a driver; and
WHEREAS,
TEAM Georgia saves lives by operating the designated driver booths at the
largest sporting and entertainment venues in Georgia and educating the public as
to the benefits of designating a driver.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the laudable efforts of TEAM Georgia in promoting safety and personal
responsibility in Georgia and recognize February 22, 2007, as "Designate a
Driver Day" in Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the TEAM Georgia.
