A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Dr. Argene Claxton for outstanding contributions to education in
the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Dr. Argene Claxton, a highly respected educator at Perry High School, was
recently inducted into the Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame;
and
WHEREAS,
he is the youngest member ever inducted, and his father, B. H. Claxton, was a
charter member of the Hall of Fame, making them the only father and son members
to be inducted; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame is dedicated to outstanding
agricultural educators who have devoted their careers to instructing the youth
and adults of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Claxton earned bachelor´s and master´s degrees in Agriculture
Education from the University of Georgia and a doctorate of education from
Argosy University; and
WHEREAS,
for 27 years, Dr. Claxton has been teaching at Perry High School and developing
an award winning Future Farmers of America program, as evidenced by six national
winning teams and two individual winners, 35 State FFA senior team event wins,
finishes in the top ten in national FFA competitions 16 times, and one student
having served as the National FFA President; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Claxton has been honored many times for his dedication to teaching and
agriculture, having received the Award of Excellence from the University of
Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Association
and having been named Perry High School´s STAR teacher three times and
Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Claxton has held leadership roles in many organizations, including president
of the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teacher´s Association;
and
WHEREAS,
his unwavering dedication to agriculture extends beyond his classroom, as
illustrated by his students growing and planting landscape plants and flowers
around the City of Perry to beautify the community and landscaping the Georgia
Farm Bureau office in Perry; and
WHEREAS,
nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young
people, and Dr. Claxton has, during his teaching career, exemplified the
selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest
educators; and
WHEREAS,
it is appropriate that this body join in expressing appreciation to Dr. Claxton
for his outstanding efforts and accomplishments in professional
education.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that Dr. Argene Claxton is hereby
recognized, commended, and congratulated upon selection as an inductee into the
Georgia Agriculture Education Hall of Fame; and gratitude is expressed for the
great credit this fine educator reflects upon Houston County and the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Argene Claxton.
