A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Johnnie C. Warner, Jr., and the Columbus Black History Museum and Archives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Johnnie C. Warner, Jr., founder of the Columbus Black History Museum and Archives, was recently presented a Leadership Legacy award at the 20th Annual Black History Observance event in Columbus, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Warner, a native of Cleveland, Georgia, opened the museum in March, 2004, using his own personal finances, and the museum currently receives inquiries from hundreds of schools, civic organizations, and private individuals to schedule tours of the museum's exhibitions; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Warner is known throughout the community as a man of unimpeachable intelligence and faith, and the museum is operated according to the inspiration of Hosea 4:6: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children"; and

WHEREAS, the museum is currently displaying a show of artwork from the Kingdom of Benin at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus that includes a six-foot-tall mahogany statue of Oba Akenzua II, miniature brass figures, and other archeological pieces; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Warner's dedication to history and educational excellence has brought honor to his family, the Columbus community, and the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize the Columbus Black History Museum and Archives and commend the extensive contributions of Mr. Johnnie C. Warner, Jr., to the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Johnnie C. Warner, Jr.
