A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Greg Southers for his courageous and exemplary contributions to the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF); and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Greg Southers has selflessly devoted countless hours fund raising for the NTAF; and

WHEREAS, in 2005, he was instrumental in raising nearly $10,000 at the annual Tom Glavine´s Spring Training event at Turner Field, a Georgia Transplant Foundation fund raiser, by securing a Van Halen collector´s guitar and several framed art pieces; and

WHEREAS, this esteemed Georgian, who was placed on the waiting list for a new heart in 1999, has been raising funds for the NTAF as a way to help not only himself but fellow transplant recipients; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Southers has also been involved in a variety of charitable activities such as volunteering for Meals on Wheels, preparing meals for as many as ten seniors and/or terminally ill citizens and delivering them five days a week; and

WHEREAS, he is a devoted husband, a proud father of seven children, and a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, this compassionate and generous citizen has reached out with his heart as well as with his hands to help others in need, and has provided much needed assistance and resources to the NTAF, benefiting transplant recipients throughout the State of Georgia as well as the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body heartily and gratefully commend Mr. Greg Southers for his sacrifice and diligence on behalf of the National Transplant Assistance Fund and for his continued service to his community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Greg Southers.
