RESOLUTION
Commending
Winford Ivey of the 2006-2007 Jordan Vocational High School Red Jackets boys
basketball team; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
through perseverance and iron determination, the Jordan Vocational High School
Red Jackets boys basketball has completed another spectacular season;
and
WHEREAS,
the Red Jackets soared through the state playoffs and, as a fitting finale to
their remarkable 2007 campaign, captured the Class AAA State Championship;
and
WHEREAS,
the 2006-2007 Red Jackets were composed of the following fine athletes: Winford
Ivey, Terrance Hill, Xavier Jordan, Joushua Woods, Tim Jordan, James Abraham,
Keith Saunders, Xavier Lane, Steve Peterson, Derek Brown, Joe Crouch, Quintin
Crouch, and Pierre Ware; and
WHEREAS,
the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding
athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and
spirit of each member of the team; their superb offensive and defensive talents;
the astute direction of Head Coach Gerald Turner and Coaches Collins Jones, Wes
Wilson, and Ken Wojociechowski; and the loyal support of Student Trainers
Cartavius Minger and Derrick Hayes, Spiritual Leader Alton Albritton, and
Athletic Director Anthony Dimitry; and
WHEREAS,
the Red Jackets exemplified the virtues of sportsmanship and community spirit,
playing alongside their neighbors and fellow champions, the Manchester Blue
Devils; and
WHEREAS,
as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by
performing with courage and precision over months of pain and hard work, it is
fitting and proper to call them champions.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Winford Ivey, commend the players, coaches, student trainers, athletic director,
and spiritual leader of the Jordan Vocational High School Red Jackets boys
basketball team for their unparalleled achievements, and extend their sincerest
best wishes for continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Winford Ivey.
